frequently asked questions about using a professional home stager:
What should I look for when I hire a home stager?
All home stagers are not created equal! Since there
are no national standards to govern the home staging industry anyone can become a home stager- even
without taking a class or having hands-on experience. If you are hiring a home stager ask to see
samples of work they have done for other local home owners. Also ask to speak to past clients or
to read client testimonials of their work. Make sure your home stager is insured and ask if they are
a registered business in your county or state.
How much does it cost to stage my home?
Home Staging fees vary according to your local market
however if you work with a qualified stager they should be able to provide you with a bottom line
estimate to complete your project. Beware of stagers that are not able to give you a total fee for
the job and will let you know the cost once the project is finished. An experienced home stager knows
what to charge and what your market demands. A novice is unable to give you this information because
they may be inexperienced with staging homes. The novice may appear to be more affordable but in the
end the job may take longer and end up costing you more for the delay.
Where can I learn more about the Home Staging Industry?
There are many associations and organizations of home
stagers. RESA is a national association
dedicated to creating standards in the staging industry. To read news and events happening in the staging
industry the Stage it Forward Group on Active Rain is a great resource for learning more about staging
and its many benefits.
